Grassy Park

I was involved in this project for about 2 years. This project focused on substance dependence and abuse in underprivileged schools in Grassy Park. I provide individual assessment and therapy for adolescents struggling with addictive chemicals and behaviours, as well as violence-related problems. I also work with schools to develop specific protocols for addressing these issues, on addiction education, and to train teachers further on addiction-related matters.


Lavender Hill

I was co-director of this outpatient drug rehabilitation centre for around 3 years. The Lavender Hill Community project provided pro bono outpatient drug rehabilitation for individuals residing in poorer community areas around Lavender Hill, Grassy Park and Vrygrond, using a 16-week programme adapted from the Matrix Model. The Matrix Model is a structured, manual-based treatment programme that has been extremely well researched for over a decade in the USA, and has already been successfully applied to two other community schemes in South Africa.
